Congratulations, Melanie!

Monday night, nearly 900 guests gathered in Dallas Texas for the Southwest Youth of the Year Celebration. Congratulations to our very own BGCAA Club member Melanie (Mah-Lah-Nee) W. who was named the 2016-2017 Southwest Youth of the Year!

So far, Melanie has received multiple scholarships in conjunction with this great honor. Her awards include: $5K from the Austin Boys and Girls Club Foundation; $5K from an anonymous BGCAA donor; $5K from Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) for her Texas win; and $10K from BGCA renewable each year for up to $40K.

This fall, Melanie will travel to Washington D.C. to vie for the National Youth of the Year title, which comes with an additional $100,000 scholarship, a potential visit with the President of the United States and the opportunity to serve as a spokesperson for Boys & Girls Clubs of America representing four million Club kids and teens.

“As National Youth of the Year, I would hope to spark a legacy of hope and giving in the hearts of teens everywhere,” Webster said. “To inspire them and show that no matter who you are, or where you come from, you can do anything you want in life.”

It was a truly exciting night. Click here to leave a comment for Melanie on the Youth of the Year blog.
